The site's permit number isn't in a format Defra accepts

Defra checks the permit number against its own format rules, not against the permit itself.

Formats Defra accepts: EPR/AB1234CD (also in lower case), PPC/A/1234567. Formats Defra rejects: EAWML 12345, WML 123456, EPR-AB1234CD, WEX123456, EPR/AB1234CD/V002. An exemption reference is not a permit number and is always rejected. Checked against Defra's sandbox 22 September 2026 (docs/defra-errors/findings-2026-09-22.md, R04–R10).

What to do

1. Press Open site settings.
2. Copy the permit number from the permit itself, written in one of the accepted formats above.
3. Press Save changes, then go back to the record and press Retry.

Tipslip sends the record to Defra again once you retry.
