Adding your site and permit number

Go to Sites, then Add a site.

What you need

• Site name — how you'll recognise it in the list.
• Permit / licence number — the environmental permit number for this site, e.g. EPR/AB1234CD or EAWML12345. If it doesn't match a common England/Wales format, Tipslip shows a warning but still lets you save it — Defra's own service is the final check, not Tipslip.
• Operator name and Regulator — who holds the permit, and which regulator issued it:
• EA — Environment Agency (England)
• NRW — Natural Resources Wales
• SEPA — Scottish Environment Protection Agency
• NIEA — Northern Ireland Environment Agency
• Address and postcode.
• This is one of our own permitted receiving sites — tick this for a site where you receive waste. A TIP recorded here is what creates a report to Defra.

Why the permit number matters

Checked 22 September 2026. The receiving site's permit number is a required field on every Defra receipt — Defra's service will not accept a submission without it (Digital Waste Tracking Receipt API). Getting it right here means your drivers never have to think about it again.
