The two-working-day deadline

By law, a receiving site must record a load and get a digital waste record number by the end of the second working day after the day the load was received (The Digital Waste Tracking (England) Regulations 2026, SI 2026 No. 729, reg. 4).

In practice: waste received at 9am on Monday must be reported before midnight on Wednesday (Defra FAQ).

How Tipslip handles this

Tipslip queues the record the moment the driver taps Save tip and sends it automatically as soon as the phone has signal — normally well inside the window. If a TIP was saved with Not yet known for a treatment code, the row is labelled D/R code not yet known on the Submissions page, and it stays on the same countdown and urgent-deadline alert as every other record — being accepted by Defra does not stop the clock — until the office adds the code.

Keeping an eye on the deadline

On the Submissions page:

• Every row shows a countdown to its deadline.
• Tick Deadline within 24h to see only the ones that need attention soon.
• A record that's about to miss its deadline shows an urgent red banner — treat this differently from a normal rejection; it means the clock is nearly up, not that something is wrong with the data.
