Office setup guide: signup to your first accepted receipt

A step-by-step walkthrough for a new firm's first setup on Tipslip. This assumes you already have your carrier registration number, one site's permit number, and a driver ready to test with. For the short version, see Getting started with Tipslip.

Checklist

  • ☐ Create your Tipslip account
  • ☐ Confirm your email address
  • ☐ Add a payment method (or skip for now)
  • ☐ Enter your firm's carrier registration number
  • ☐ Add your first site and its permit number
  • ☐ Give your drivers the privacy notice
  • ☐ Add your first driver and a PIN
  • ☐ Add your first vehicle
  • ☐ Install the driver app on the driver's phone
  • ☐ Record a test TIP from the driver app
  • ☐ Confirm it shows as **Accepted** on the Submissions page

Step by step

1. Create your account

Press Start your 7-day trial to open the signup page. Fill in your firm name, what kind of firm you are, your name, email and a password of at least 8 characters, then click Start free trial. No card required to start.

We email you a link to confirm your address. It expires after an hour; if it doesn't arrive, check your spam folder or press Resend the link on the Check your email page. Opening the link signs you in and starts the setup wizard.

2. Add a payment method (or skip)

You'll land on Add a payment method. Your 7-day trial has already started, so this can wait — click Skip for now if you'd rather do it later from Billing.

3. Firm details

Enter your carrier registration number and firm address, then click Save changes. Tipslip puts these details on every waste transfer note it makes.

4. Your first site

Add your site's name, its permit / licence number, operator name and regulator, then click Add site and continue. Leave "This is one of our own permitted receiving sites" ticked if you'll be recording TIPs here — this is what makes a TIP at this site create a Defra submission.

5. Your first driver

First you'll see Tell your drivers first. Download the documents listed there, give every driver the privacy notice and talk to them about what the app records. Then tick We have given our drivers the privacy notice and consulted them and click Confirm.

Next, add the driver's name and a 4–6 digit PIN, and click Add driver.

6. Your first vehicle

Add the registration your driver will pick when they start a job, and click Add vehicle.

7. Install the driver app

On the driver's phone, open a browser, go to driver.tipslip.co.uk, and add it to the home screen. Type in your firm code (shown on this screen, along with a QR code) and the driver's PIN, then tap Log in.

8. Record a test TIP

On the driver app, from Home press Tip. Choose your site and vehicle, add one waste line, take a photo of the load, sign, and tap Save tip. See Recording a DROP, COLLECT or TIP for the full steps.

9. Check the Submissions page

Back in the office app, open Submissions. Once the phone has synced, your test TIP appears as Waiting to send, then Sent, awaiting Defra, and settles as Accepted. See Understanding Defra statuses if you see anything else.

That's a working end-to-end setup: a site, a driver, a vehicle, and one accepted Defra receipt.

From £49 a month.

One site and up to three drivers on Starter. Three sites and twelve drivers on Pro at £99, with extra sites and drivers added as you grow.
